What is W.E.T.T.

Wood Energy Technology Transfer Inc. (WETT Inc.) is a non-profit training and education association that elevates the level of expertise in the area of solid fuel burning appliances.

WETT Inc. issues certificates of qualification to candidates who have the required amount of relevant field experience, have completed specified courses of study and have achieved a passing grade on examinations designed to test competence in the required skill areas.

Individuals and insurance companies that are concerned about the compliance of a wood burning system will request an inspection from a W.E.T.T. certified inspector.

The "Basic Visual Inspection" is a general overview of the readily accessible parts of a wood burning system to determine whether it meets current standards and regulations The basic visual inspection does not comment on the system integrity, efficiency of the system or address such issues as smoke spillage or rapid creosote accumulation. No part of the system is dismantled. The chimney is reviewed to the point visible from the top of the chimney and from the fire box only and may be affected by cleanliness or contours of the flue. For a more comprehensive review a WETT certified technician or chimney sweep should be contacted.
